The Online Press Kit for Jude Ray

Jude Ray is an award-winning filmmaker of social issue, cultural, and historical documentaries and investigative reports. Her credits include programs on PBS, HBO, BBC, A&E, and Turner Broadcasting.

Ms. Ray is co-director (with Katrina Browne and Alla Kovgan) and executive producer of the documentary film “Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North.” The film is featured in the prestigious main competition of this year's Sundance Film Festival and is slated to be broadcast nationally on PBS’s pre-eminent documentary series, P.O.V.

“Traces of the Trade” tells the story of the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history. Nine fellow descendants of her prominent family agree to journey with first-time filmmaker and family member Katrina Browne to retrace the steps of the Triangle Trade from Rhode Island to Ghana to Cuba and back. At each stop, the family grapples with the painful contemporary legacy of slavery, not only for black Americans, but for themselves and as white Americans as well.
